CLOE LUTON
I took my first Bikram Yoga Class in NYC Fall November, 2004.
My close friend said to me, “I’m taking you to Yoga, make sure you
drink lots of water and have a healthy meal after class” Thus my Yoga
Journey began.
Everything about the yoga class was amazing to me! The hot room,
the mirrors, the postures, a totally new and different experience for
me. I remember clearly my first yoga class when we began doing the
first posture I felt extremely uncomfortable, my shoulders were
hurting, I began laughing and thought to my self, what is this? I had
never experienced anything like this before, the simple act of deep
breathing.
Being a Jamaican living in NYC, the hot room was always a pleasant escape. I fell in love with practicing yoga.
This yoga has been a vital support for my life over the years and in
Spring 2018, I attended Teacher Training in Acapulco Mexico,
completing nine weeks of training with Bikram Choudhury.
Its never too late, Its never too bad, you’re never too old or sick, to
start from scratch once again” has been my motto and motivation.
Namaste.

Yoga has been a part of my life since age 9.
Peeping through the fence of a neighbor who would flow gracefully in
out of these beautiful poses on the lawn in her garden, I was hooked
at first peep.
My dabbling with the asanas took on a deeper meaning after the loss
of my mom at age 14. Yoga became my anchor.
In my twenties and thirties yoga helped me through a challenging
marriage, a miscarriage, eventually a divorce and the loss of my
father. I later traveled to New York and embarked on the
Internationally acclaimed YogaKids Foundations Training run by
founder Marsha Wenig. It took an extra year to complete the
advanced training and the trainer program for Yogakids.
All of this made it a journey of exploration and wonder as I dabbled
in the world of yoga for children as well as teenagers. It was
challenging as it was simultaneously hugely rewarding.
Later after returning to South Africa, I decided to immerse myself in
my own practice. Bikram Yoga took up much space in my everyday
yoga routine and in Spring 2011 I completed the Bikram Teacher
Training in Los Angeles.
I further pursued other teacher trainings, Forrest yoga, training with
Ana Forrest in Cape Town completing both the Foundations and
Advanced trainings in 2013 & 2018 respectively.
I completed the Unnata Aerial yoga training with Montse Lominchar
in July 2017 in Girona, Spain.
Each training opened up new pathways for me to explore different
aspects of myself with kindness and compassion. This is how I serve
with my yoga practice. In essence all is coming with perseverance
and patience.
As Ana Forrest puts it so beautifully; “Walk in Beauty”
